Stop Porn Culture: A movement standing against the harmful effects of Pornography – Gail Dines

According to an internet safety website, Porn sites get more visitors each month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined, with 30% of the internet industry dedicated to Porn!

Every second, 28,258 people are viewing Porn on the internet, spending $3,075.64 on Porn every second.

Every 39 minutes, a new pornographic video is made in the United States.

50% of 11 year olds, and 90% of 15 year olds have been exposed to Pornography, with 15% of 12-17 year olds searching out x-rated material on line, according to the Youth Internet Safety Survey in America.

Young people who look at violent x-rated material are 6 times more likely to force someone to do something sexual on line, or in person.

Internet pornography has been blamed for the 20% increase in sexual attacks made by children over the last three years in the UK.

Pornography that these young people are expose to is violent, degrading to women, and distorts the young peron’s understanding of relationships and what intimacy is.

Pornography is the public health crisis of the digital age.

This TED-X Talk by Gail Dines of Stop Porn Culture goes into the realities of our pornified culture. The statistics are stark, she is unforgiving in her presentation, but isn’t it about time we had a frank discussion about how porn is harming our young people?
